Spanish

At St John Fisher we aim for our children to become confident linguists and to prepare them for the KS3 language curriculum enabling them to transfer confidently and successfully with the firm foundations of a modern foreign language.

Our ambitious scheme of work uses Language Angels to provide a clear progression for the development of speaking, listening, reading, writing and vocabulary acquisition.

Spanish lessons are designed to motivate, captivate and interest in a variety of ways:

  • Games – to develop vocabulary through repetition, reading, writing, speaking and listening skills.
  • Role-play – to relate to the situations the children may find themselves in the future.
  • Action songs and rhymes – to develop phonetic skills, memory skills and to further vocabulary.
  • Reading and writing quality materials.
  • ICT programs and websites; the use of ICT to develop communication skills.
  • We build children’s confidence through praise for any contribution they make in the foreign language, however tentative.

Key Stage 1

In KS1, the children are introduced to modern foreign languages by using classroom routines (register), songs, prayers and through the opportunity to attend our lunchtime Language and Culture Club.
