Welcome to Year 2

I am Miss Gould the class teacher, and I am supported by Mrs Richardson and Mrs Cripwell this year.

We are looking to sharing your child’s wonderful learning journey this year.

As the oldest children in Key Stage 1, we try very hard to set a good example to the younger children. We aspire for children to be constantly learning, developing into strong, resilient, capable, confident and self-assured pupils. We provide creative and fun learning opportunities to promote the development of knowledge, understanding and skills. We are always encouraged to be happy, work hard and treat each other with kindness as Jesus taught us.

Our Catholic Faith is at the heart of everything we do in Year 2. Your child will learn that Jesus loves us all and that we are special. We ensure children are aware of the importance of prayer and reflection. Children in Year 2 will learn about a range of RE topics including Creation, Advent, Christmas, Baptism, Lent, Holy Week, Easter and Pentecost.

At the end of Year 2 we take part in the KS1 SATs, where we get the chance to show how much we have learnt. We practise for these assessments as part of our normal lessons and, as a result, children should not find the assessments a worry.

Homework is important in Year 2. Each week homework will typically include either a piece of English, Maths or Science work, spelling and reading. All these activities help us to develop our sense of responsibility and independence as learners.
