I was hungry and you fed me, thirsty and you gave me a drink; I was a stranger and you received me in your homes, naked and you clothed me; I was sick and you took care of me, in prison and you visited me….I tell you, whenever you did this for one of the least important of these followers of mine, you did it for me! Matthew 25:35-40
This academic year St John Fisher have supported different charities.
In Lent term, we took part in the Cafod Big Lent Walk. Mr Grattidge joined up for an assembly about this – telling us that Cafod were trying to raise money to buy Glitter Chickens for families so they could eat and sell the eggs they produce.
Mr Lobb set 3 challenges for the children….
Challenge 1) Carry out a virtual pilgrimage as part of the Jubilee Year as pilgrims of hope around all 9 jubilee churches in the diocese. This virtual route takes in churches in Leicester, Lincoln and Nottingham – and will end at St Mary’s church in Derby.
This is a total of 211miles. Key Stage 2 classes will be aiming to do this distance as a class; EYFS and KS1 as the 3 classes (for KS2 this works out about 1 lap of the field per child every day for the time of Lent we are in school). If they succeed – they will be rewarded with an additional playtime for their class/ phase.
Challenge 2) As a school, carry out a virtual pilgrimage to the Jubilee Door at the Vatican – this is an extra 200miles as a school (1411miles in total). If they succeed – the whole school will be rewarded with a non-uniform day during the last week of term.
Challenge 3) Raise £1000 for Cafod. If they succeed – Mr Lobb will dress as a chicken and walk to St Mary’s church in Derby (the jubilee church for our area) to deliver the money to Mr Grattidge/ Cafod on 4th April. I will send regular photos and updates to school on my journey – dressed a chicken!! Miss Woodings will join me on this journey – dressed as an egg!
In Advent term, our Harvest offerings went to support a local charity Doorways Derby.

We also took part in National Youth Funday, wearing our own clothes to support NDCYS, The Briars.
During Lent term, we raised money for Rainbows Hospice through singing and donating unwanted items to their Where’s it bin? initiative.
